Saber Exterminating

What an excellent company. They came out to our house and did a free termite inspection. They wouldn’t take any money.

We’ll certainly use them again.

Budget Truck Rental

November 10th, 2006 by Duff OMelia

We’ve used Budget Truck Rental a number of times for out of state moves and we’ve been pretty happy with them.

I’ve been told that their trucks are higher quality than Uhaul’s and I’ve found that to be the case as well.

Tart Jewelers

October 16th, 2006 by Duff OMelia

These guys are multi-generational jewelry craftsmen located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Simply put, they’re honest experts. They were recommended to me by a friend who received independent verification that the diamonds that they sold him really were what they said they were. Since then, I have also verified that the diamonds that they sell are accurately classified.

The members of the Tart family are also experts at jewelry repair. I have been quite happy with the purchase I made from Tart Jewelers.

Here is the location on Google Maps.

Toys-R-Us in Cary, NC

September 30th, 2006 by Duff OMelia

I now have a better understanding as to why Toy-R-Us is having such trouble competing with the likes of Target, Wal-Mart, and Costco. The store we shopped in is located in the Crossroads shopping center in Cary, North Carolina.

I think the store is awful. Here’s why:

  • SO many items have no price tags. This is so annoying. Other businesses don’t seem to have this issue.
  • We could never find someone to help us find things or give us guidance.
  • The line at the register was quite long. Yet there are employees lingering around the customer service desk. Why aren’t they helping? Does it make sense for a business to waste their customer’s time?
  • No one could seem to tell me if they had a product in stock.
  • The person managing the store that day agreed that many products had no prices on them. He said there wasn’t anything he could do about it because upper management only allows them to do certain things. This is nuts. If you’re managing the store, fix the problem.

It’s just easier to go to Target.

Marriott Hotel Pool

September 4th, 2006 by Duff OMelia

Not many people know that you can actually join the Marriott Hotel pool across from Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh, NC. We looked around at a number of swim clubs in the area. They were all way more expensive than the Marriott and none of them were nearly as nice.

It’s only $125 for a 6 month family membership. Can you believe that price? This is what you get:
  • Access to the indoor/outdoor pool. They’re connected under a wall. It’s very nice.
  • Access to the enormous jacuzzi.
  • Access to 2 fitness rooms stocked with treadmills, weights, etc. They’re a nice bonus.

We like it because it’s very clean, it’s often empty, and you get to use their towels! This place cannot be beat.

Jellybeans

We had my daughter Madeline’s 7th birthday party at this roller skating rink in Cary, NC. It was a pretty nice place and the kids really loved it. They had rollerblades and rollerskates for rent. It was a fun morning. We’ll be repeat customers. Here it is on the map.

Quality Auto Service

April 17th, 2006 by Duff OMelia

This is my mechanic. I highly recommend them. They’re straightforward and they’ve treated me right time after time. They’ve also helped my brother Russ as well.

There were a number of times that I’ve brought cars in and they determined that I shouldn’t have any work done.

They really know what they’re doing and they’re willing to discuss the possibilities for a fix. Their names are Rich and Dave.

Here’s their website. Here they are on the map.

Tiger Direct

I think their return policy is annoying. Only store credit if the box is opened? Nuts. I’m not a fan.

I still bought 2 monitors from there because they were SO cheap. I wonder if I’ll regret it.

UPDATE: I regret it. They won’t send me my rebate check. I’ve talked to them, mailed them stuff, faxed them stuff, jumped through their hoops, gotten them to verbally say they’ll send it. They don’t send the rebate. TOTAL SCAM.
